
Surge in West Nile Virus Cases Reported by NMDOH
The New Mexico Department of Health has reported eight new cases of West Nile virus in residents of six different counties, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 10 for the year. Seven of the cases required hospitalizations, with two individuals currently in the hospital. The virus has also been detected in eight horses and two birds across several counties. Health officials are urging residents to take preventive measures, such as using insect repellent, eliminating water-holding containers, and ensuring screens on windows and doors are intact. Common symptoms of West Nile virus include fever, nausea, headache, and muscle aches.
