The New Mexico Department of Health is contacting former clients of the Albuquerque spa VIP Beauty Salon and Spa after a diagnosed case of HIV was linked to the spa. The department recommends that anyone who received an injection service at the spa get blood testing for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. The investigation has found additional HIV infections linked to the spa's services, and the spa was closed in 2018 due to practices that could spread blood-borne infections. The owner of the spa pleaded guilty to practicing medicine without a license. Free walk-in blood testing will be available for former spa clients at the South Valley Public Health office on specific dates.
