"NASA's Perseverance Rover Captures Epic Martian Solar Eclipse"

The Perseverance rover captured rare footage of solar eclipses on Mars as its moons, Phobos and Deimos, passed in front of the Sun. These events provide valuable insights into the moons' orbits and their effects on the Martian interior. Phobos, the larger and closer moon, blocks out more sunlight than Deimos, which is smaller and farther away. Interestingly, Phobos is on a collision course with Mars, while Deimos is slowly moving away from the planet. Despite these celestial spectacles, the rover's primary mission remains the search for signs of ancient life on Mars.

NASA and Japan Collaborate on Martian Moon Mission with International Team.

NASA has signed a memorandum of understanding with JAXA to join its upcoming mission to Mars's two moons, Phobos and Deimos, which is scheduled to launch in 2024. The Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission will not only visit the two mysterious moons that whirl around Mars, it will also land on the cratered surface of Phobos to snag a sample from the largest of the two moons. The main purpose of the mission is to analyze the origins of the Martian moons and determine whether they are captured asteroids in the Mars system or fragments that coalesced together following a huge impact on the Red Planet.
