Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims Lives in Marshall County

Two people were killed in Marshall County, Iowa, when an SUV ran out of gas on Highway 330 and they were struck by oncoming traffic while trying to push the vehicle off the road. The SUV came to a rest in a ditch, while the car that hit them stopped on the shoulder. The driver of the SUV and the individuals who stopped to help were not identified. Two others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

Marshall County Deer Diagnosed with Chronic Wasting Disease

A deer in Marshall County, Iowa, has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, prompting the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to increase its deer samples in the county from 15-20 to 100 or more per year. Since 2013, a total of 260 deer have tested positive for the disease in 16 Iowa counties. Chronic wasting disease affects the brain of infected deer, causing weight loss, abnormal behavior, and death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not reported any cases of the disease in humans.

Fatal Crash Claims Life of Ames Man on Highway 30

An Ames man, Bruce York, was killed in a multivehicle crash on Highway 30 in Marshall County. The accident occurred when York's pickup truck was struck by another vehicle while attempting to make a turn. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 170 people have died on Iowa roads this year, with an average of 338 deaths per year over the past five years.
