Marshall County Deer Diagnosed with Chronic Wasting Disease
A deer in Marshall County, Iowa, has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, prompting the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to increase its deer samples in the county from 15-20 to 100 or more per year. Since 2013, a total of 260 deer have tested positive for the disease in 16 Iowa counties. Chronic wasting disease affects the brain of infected deer, causing weight loss, abnormal behavior, and death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not reported any cases of the disease in humans.
