3,000-year-old mummy found buried under trash in Peru.
Archaeologists in Peru discovered a 3,000-year-old mummy buried in a U-shaped temple at a garbage dump in Lima. The mummy was surrounded by coca leaves and seashells, indicating it was part of a sacrificial ritual. The remains belonged to a male and were bound in vegetable-based rope. The body has not yet been carbon-dated to determine its exact age. The area was a sacred location for the local ancients, and ancient walls were also found around the dump. Ancient mummies are not infrequent finds in Lima.
