3000-year-old mummy discovered in Peruvian rubbish dump
Archaeologists in Peru have discovered a 3,000-year-old mummy at a rubbish dump in Lima. The mummy is believed to be from the Manchay culture, which lived in the area around Lima from around 1500BC to 1000BC and is known for building U-shaped temples. The body had been laid out flat inside a U-shaped temple and wrapped in cloth made from cotton and vegetable fibre. The person was likely left or offered as a sacrifice during the last phase of construction of the temple.
