Remembering Rosalynn Carter: A Farewell with Leis and Love
Originally Published 2 years ago — by FOX 5 Atlanta

Former President Jimmy Carter and his family members wore leis at the funeral of Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady. The leis were a tribute to their time in Hawaii, where Jimmy Carter was stationed in the Navy and their son Chip was born. Rosalynn Carter had learned hula dancing while living in Hawaii and even won a hula dancing contest. The leis were shipped from Hawaii to Georgia for the family, and they were happy to wear them as a festive and appropriate symbol of celebration for Mrs. Carter's life. The funeral took place in Plains, Georgia, where Rosalynn Carter was laid to rest near the home where Jimmy Carter still lives.
