Fort Hood has been renamed Fort Cavazos in honor of Gen. Richard Cavazos, the first Latino four-star general and decorated war veteran. The renaming comes after a yearslong process by the Department of Defense’s Naming Commission to redesignate installations that commemorated the Confederacy. Cavazos, who died in 2017, grew up on a cattle ranch in Texas and commanded the III Armored Corps. The base is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and other divisions and commands, and employs more than 4,000 civilians.

Latino Representation in Super Mario Bros Movie Sparks Boycott and Criticism

Actor John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 live-action “Super Mario Bros.” movie, is boycotting the new animated adaptation of the video game series over a supposed lack of Latino diversity. Leguizamo suggested the new movie should have cast a Latino actor to play at least one of the brothers. Actors Chris Pratt and Charlie Day are voicing Mario and Luigi, respectively, in the new animated movie. Pratt caught flak over his casting to voice the Italian character even though he is not Italian. Pratt, though, is not using the thick Italian actor fans are used to, instead sounding more like an Italian-American living in New York City.
