"Kimchi's Hidden Superpower: Lactic Acid Bacteria Strains Unveil High Virus Resistance"

Researchers at the World Institute of Kimchi have discovered lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains in kimchi with high levels of resistance to phages, viruses that infect bacteria. The dominant LAB strain, Pediococcus inopinatus, was found to possess a well-developed CRISPR system, which allows it to effectively defend against viral invasions. These phage-resistant LAB strains have potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

"Breakthrough Treatment Unveiled to Tackle Hospital Superbug"

Researchers at Cal State Fullerton have discovered a promising new therapeutic to treat Acinetobacter baumannii, a superbug commonly found in hospitals and resistant to many antibiotics. They found that a strain of lactic acid bacteria called Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CRL 2244 was effective at stopping the growth of A. baumannii and even causing the bacteria to die. This finding could provide a new alternative treatment for carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infections. Further research is needed to explore this potential treatment option.
