Belgian Intelligence Investigates Alibaba's Alleged Espionage at Liege Airport
The Belgian intelligence service, VSSE, is investigating the presence of Alibaba Group Holding at Liege airport, citing concerns over possible spying and interference activities by Chinese entities, including Alibaba. The investigation is based on an analysis of China's legal framework, which obligates Chinese companies to share data with Chinese authorities and intelligence services. Alibaba, which signed an agreement with the Belgian government in 2018 to open an e-commerce trade hub, has denied any wrongdoing. The company recently filed to list its logistics arm, Cainiao, on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
