The Belgian intelligence service, VSSE, is investigating the presence of Alibaba Group Holding at Liege airport, citing concerns over possible spying and interference activities by Chinese entities, including Alibaba. The investigation is based on an analysis of China's legal framework, which obligates Chinese companies to share data with Chinese authorities and intelligence services. Alibaba, which signed an agreement with the Belgian government in 2018 to open an e-commerce trade hub, has denied any wrongdoing. The company recently filed to list its logistics arm, Cainiao, on the Hong Kong stock exchange.

German Man Arrested for Alleged Russian Espionage

A German national working for a government agency that equips the German armed forces has been arrested on suspicion of spying for Russia. The man allegedly passed information to the Russian intelligence service after approaching the Russian Consulate General and Embassy on his own initiative. He was remanded in custody after being brought before a Federal Supreme Court investigating judge. Anne Keast-Butler appointed as GCHQ's first female director.

Anne Keast-Butler has been appointed as the first female director of GCHQ, succeeding Sir Jeremy Fleming. She is currently serving as deputy director general at MI5 and has previously worked for GCHQ as the head of counter-terrorism and serious organised crime. Keast-Butler has a 30-year career in the national security field and helped to launch the national cyber security programme. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly described her as the "ideal candidate to lead GCHQ".
