Scientists at Peking University have developed a new composite fiber combining heterocyclic aramid and aligned carbon nanotubes, resulting in a material that surpasses Kevlar in strength, toughness, and energy absorption, potentially leading to lighter and more effective protective gear.
Following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, it has been revealed that a majority of bridges in the U.S. lack impact protection, with only 36% of the 4,207 bridges allowing ships to pass under them described as having functional pier protection. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the Key Bridge collapse, and there are calls for updated protections for older bridges to prevent similar disasters in the future.
Casetify has collaborated with Studio Khara to release a new line of Evangelion-inspired iPhone and AirPods cases and chargers. The Project-CSTF: Protection from Impact series features impact-absorbing shielding to protect devices from falls, with designs inspired by Evangelion pilots and mechs. Additionally, a charging dock and an AirPods Pro case modeled after Eva Test Type-01's head will be available. To celebrate the collaboration, Casetify is hosting an outdoor exhibition in Japan until July 25th.
