"Pioneering Breakthrough: Human Kidneys Successfully Grown Inside Pigs"
Scientists have successfully grown humanised kidneys inside pigs by creating human-pig chimeric embryos. The embryos contained a combination of human and pig cells, and when transferred into surrogate pig mothers, the developing embryos showed kidneys that were mostly composed of human cells. However, the kidneys also included pig cells in the vasculature and nerves, making them unsuitable for transplantation. While the research is pioneering, there are still significant challenges to overcome before clinical applications can be realized. The potential for a humanised brain raises ethical concerns, and current genetic engineering techniques may not be sufficient to create a wholly human organ.
