"High Desert Dogs at Risk: Veterinarians Warn of Fatal Disease Outbreak"

Veterinarians in the High Desert are warning about the potentially fatal salmon poisoning disease affecting dogs in Southern California, linked to raw fish consumption, particularly trout from local lakes. The disease, caused by a bacteria carried by a flatworm in the fish, can lead to lethargy, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea in infected dogs. Officials recommend not feeding dogs raw fish from sport fishing, monitoring for symptoms if ingestion occurs, and cooking fish before consumption to prevent the disease.

"Patricia Arquette Shines in Chaotic Comedy 'High Desert': A Review"

Patricia Arquette stars in the Apple TV+ comedy "High Desert" as Peggy Newman, a drug dealer turned methadone user, frontier-era reenactor, and aspiring PI. The show is set in the deeply strange and beautiful High Desert region of California, but over time, it starts to feel as shambolic and scattered as its protagonist. The show eschews a case of the week, and with it a consistent rhythm that might offset its all-over-the-place feel. Arquette's maximal commitment turns out to work better in small doses, and the show is hardly inclined to practice moderation.

"Patricia Arquette shines in chaotic yet charming 'High Desert' comedy on Apple TV+"

"High Desert," a new Apple TV Plus dramedy, follows the story of Peggy Newman (Patricia Arquette), a former drug dealer, addict, and hustler who becomes a natural detective. The show is set in Yucca Valley and features a range of colorful characters, including Peggy's siblings, her imprisoned husband, and her co-workers at a ramshackle amusement park. While the show is extremely funny and features a finely calibrated performance by Arquette, it suffers from a crowded and messy plot that fails to unite the farcical elements with the deeper story.

Patricia Arquette shines in chaotic comedy 'High Desert'

"High Desert" is a new comic thriller on Apple TV+ starring Patricia Arquette as Peggy Newman, a former Palm Springs socialite recovering from an opioid addiction and working as a dance hall girl/stuntwoman in an Old West tourist town. When Peggy needs to find a new income stream, she becomes an "unpaid associate" to a down-at-heels private investigator and gets involved in a Hydra-headed story involving a former local anchorman with a mini-cult, a stolen Picasso, art forgery, mob-connected brothers, and more. Arquette's performance as Peggy is the highlight of the show, which has the flavor of "Fargo" but is lighter, warmer, and less violent.

Patricia Arquette shines in Apple TV+'s offbeat comedy 'High Desert'

Apple TV+’s High Desert starts as a tale of a recovering addict barely making ends meet, but gradually blossoms into a bracingly bizarre mystery, in the tradition of sun-baked neo-noirs like The Big Lebowski or Inherent Vice. Patricia Arquette plays Peggy, a hot mess who can’t help but slosh her Peggy-ness all over the place, and Brad Garrett plays Bruce, a floundering private investigator. The show’s early aimlessness evolves into a likable shagginess, warmed by a surprising amount of heart, and High Desert gleefully ramps up the absurdity with each passing episode.
