"Unlocking Opportunities: US Identifies Promising Paths for Ukrainian Grain Exports"

The United States is exploring viable routes to export Ukrainian grain through the country's territorial waters and overland after Russia withdrew from a grain deal. The goal is to return to prewar levels of grain exports from Ukraine over the next few months. Ukraine, a major global grain grower and exporter, has been relying on its Danube River ports since Russia blockaded its deep-water Black Sea ports. Ukraine is considering using its newly tested wartime Black Sea export corridor for grain shipments, following the successful evacuation of a vessel on the route last week. Western countries have accused Russia of using food as a weapon of war by quitting the Black Sea deal, while Russia claims the deal was not working properly.

"Russian Bombings Drive Food Prices Up, Ukraine-Russia War Escalates"

Russia's intensified assault on shipping in Ukraine has severely damaged a grain elevator and port facilities, disrupting global grain exports and driving up prices. The attack on the port of Izmail has damaged 40,000 tons of grain bound for multiple countries, including African nations, China, and Israel. The port had been an alternative shipping point for Ukraine since Russia's blockade on Odesa ports. The incident has raised concerns about the impact on global food supply, with Chicago wheat prices surging 4%. Meanwhile, relations between Ukraine and Poland have become strained, with Poland attempting to block Ukraine's grain shipments to European ports.

Russia's Potential Return to Black Sea Grain Export Talks Raises Concerns: US

Russia has expressed interest in returning to talks on a deal that allowed the safe export of Ukraine grain through the Black Sea, according to the US envoy to the United Nations. However, no evidence of Russia's willingness to resume negotiations has been seen yet. The US ambassador emphasized that Russia needs to return to the deal if it wants to facilitate agricultural transactions and export its fertilizer. Further details regarding Russia's interest in returning to discussions were not provided.

Ukraine and Croatia Seal Deal for Grain Export via Croatian Ports

Ukraine and Croatia have reached an agreement to use Croatian ports for exporting Ukrainian grain, following Russia's withdrawal from a previous grain deal. The two countries will now work on establishing efficient routes to these ports. "Global Food Security at Risk: Russia's Potential Exit Threatens Expired Grain Deal"

The pact allowing safe Black Sea grain exports from Ukraine will expire on Monday if Russia does not agree to extend the agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey. Russia's invasion of Ukraine and blockade of its Black Sea ports have caused global grain prices to soar. Russia has threatened to quit the pact due to unmet demands regarding its own grain and fertilizer exports. The United Nations argues that the arrangement has helped lower food prices globally by over 20%. The UN Secretary-General has made a final effort to convince Russian President Putin to extend the deal in exchange for the EU connecting a subsidiary of a Russian bank to SWIFT for grain and fertilizer transactions.

"Ukraine-Russia Grain Deal Teeters on Expiration, Threatening Food Security"

The last ship carrying grain under the UN-brokered deal allowing Ukraine to export its grain has left the Black Sea port of Odesa, just a day before the deadline for an extension. Russia has refused to extend the deal unless its demands on its own grain and fertilizers are met. The deal was struck in 2022 amid concerns of global food shortages following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Both Ukraine and Russia are major grain exporters. The ship, TQ Samsun, is heading to Istanbul. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that key provisions of the deal had not been met, suggesting that Moscow could suspend its participation. The deal has facilitated the export of over 30 million tonnes of grain and other foods from Ukraine, benefiting countries across income levels.

Russia Blocks Ukraine's Black Sea Grain Export Deal Again.

Russia has blocked the registration of ships to all Ukrainian ports, halting the UN-brokered Black Sea grain export deal again, according to Ukraine's ministry of renovation and infrastructure. The Black Sea Grain Initiative was brokered between Moscow and Kyiv last July to help tackle a global food crisis. Russia agreed in May to a two-month extension of the deal, which covers three Ukrainian ports including Pivdennyi, but has said the initiative will cease unless an agreement aimed at overcoming obstacles to Russian grain and fertiliser exports is fulfilled.

Ukraine to hold talks on Black Sea grain export deal.

Talks are scheduled for Wednesday to discuss a UN-brokered deal that allows the safe Black Sea export of Ukrainian grain. The deal, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey last July, allows grain trapped by Russia's invasion to be safely exported from Ukraine's Black Sea ports. Russia has signalled it will not allow the deal agreed last July to continue beyond May 18 because a list of demands to facilitate its own grain and fertiliser exports has not been met.

Russia and Turkey agree to extend Black Sea grain deal by 60 days.

Russia has agreed to extend the Ukraine grain export deal for another 60 days, but only if there is "tangible progress" on a parallel agreement on Russian exports. The Black Sea Grain Initiative has helped ease the global food crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014. The initial 120-day agreement was extended once in November and was due to expire on March 18. Nearly half of the exports shipped under the BSGI deal are corn and more than a quarter are wheat.
