Stony Brook University to Lead $700 Million Climate Center on Governors Island.
Stony Brook University has been selected as the anchor institution for the development of a world-leading climate solutions center on Governors Island in New York City. The New York Climate Exchange will be a first-of-its-kind international center for developing and deploying dynamic solutions to the global climate crisis, while also acting as a hub for New Yorkers to benefit from the rapidly evolving green economy. The Simons Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies have pledged a total of $150m in combined support for the project. The Exchange will host green job training and skills-building programs for local residents to help them launch successful careers.
