"Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Assert Ownership of Contested Gas Field"
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have reaffirmed their exclusive ownership and sovereign rights over a disputed gas field with Iran, known as Arash/Durra. They called on Iran to demarcate its maritime border to validate its claim to 40% of the field. Iran, however, insists on its rights to exploit the offshore gas field and has rejected any compromise. The tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran over the gas field dispute come at a time when the two countries have been taking steps towards improving relations.
