The Las Vegas Raiders have signed quarterback Gardner Minshew to a two-year, $25 million contract with $15 million guaranteed, in a move to compete with second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell. This signing suggests the Raiders may be out of the running to acquire Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears but could still trade up in the draft for a top quarterback prospect. The addition of Minshew may also lead to potential tension with Raiders Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Minshew's strong performance as a backup for the Indianapolis Colts last season has earned him this opportunity with the Raiders.
Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee has agreed to a six-year, $113 million free-agent contract with the San Francisco Giants, with an opt-out after the fourth year. The deal does not include the roughly $19 million posting fee that the Giants will pay Lee's former team, the Kiwoom Heroes. Lee, the 2022 KBO MVP, is known for his exceptional defense and bat-to-ball skills. He is expected to be the Giants' everyday center fielder and a top-of-the-order staple for years to come.
Miles Bridges, the Flint native and former Michigan State star, has signed a one-year free agent contract to return to the Charlotte Hornets. The deal is worth $7.6 million and allows Bridges to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024. After sitting out the previous season due to domestic violence charges, Bridges will serve a 10-game suspension at the start of the 2023-24 season. He had a breakout season in 2021-22, averaging 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
