"Final Cut," a French remake of "One Cut of the Dead," loses the fun and playfulness of the original Japanese zombie comedy. Directed by Michel Hazanavicius, the film follows the making of a Z-grade horror movie within the movie, but the added dialogue and attempts to enunciate the original's message drain the chaotic working conditions and problem-solving skills of their charm. The film feels busy but not complex, clever but not smart, and involved rather than involving, leaving viewers exhausted rather than energized. Despite some faithful recreations, the remake fails to be endearing or zany enough to stand out.
