Germany Halts Major Train Route for 5-Month Renovation
Deutsche Bahn has shut down a 70-kilometer train route between Frankfurt and Mannheim for five months to carry out extensive renovations, affecting over 75,000 passengers daily. The €1.3 billion project, which includes modernizing 20 stations and installing 140 kilometers of overhead lines, aims to address outdated infrastructure and improve punctuality. The closure, part of a larger plan to modernize 41 rail routes by 2031, follows criticism over train delays during the Euro 2024 soccer championship.
