Revival of Berlin-Paris Sleeper Train After Nine-Year Hiatus
Germany's national railway operator Deutsche Bahn and French state railroad SNCF have relaunched an overnight sleeper train service between Berlin and Paris, the first in nine years. The journey takes 15 hours with tickets starting at around €30 ($32), and the service will initially operate three times a week, with plans to run every night by October 2024. The revival of night trains is driven by increased interest in sustainable travel options, although profitability remains a challenge. The new service received €10 million ($11 million) per year in subsidies from the French government, and Deutsche Bahn aims to expand its night train connections to 13 other European cities.
