Volunteers to embark on 378-day simulated Mars mission with NASA.
Four volunteers are set to enter a 3D-printed, 1,700-square-foot simulated Mars habitat at NASA's Johnson Space Center for a 378-day mission, the first of three planned simulation missions in NASA's CHAPEA habitat. The crew will engage in a diverse range of mission activities, including simulated spacewalks, robotic operations, and crop growth, while facing various environmental stressors such as limited resources, isolation, and equipment failures. The simulations will test the crew's capability to adapt to unexpected circumstances while maintaining their health and performance at optimal levels, serving as crucial stepping stones towards ensuring the safety and success of future Mars astronauts.
