"Tragic Consequences: Woman Loses Limbs from Undercooked Fish"
A 40-year-old woman in California had all her limbs amputated after consuming undercooked tilapia fish contaminated with Vibrio vulnificus bacteria. She spent over a month in the hospital fighting the infection before undergoing the life-saving surgery. The bacteria, commonly found in raw seafood and seawater, can cause severe health risks and is known to thrive in warmer sea bodies. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a health advisory warning about the increase in Vibrio vulnificus infections due to rising water temperatures. To prevent exposure, the CDC recommends washing hands after handling raw shellfish and cooking shellfish thoroughly before consumption.
