"Research Grant Aims to Improve Treatment for Chronic Lyme Disease"

Mount Sinai's Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance has received a $6.2 million grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation to expand the Cohen Center for Recovery From Complex Chronic Illnesses (CoRE). The funding will support research and clinical care for chronic Lyme disease, long COVID, and other infection-associated complex chronic illnesses. "Revolutionary Test Detects Parkinson's Disease Before Symptoms"

A new study sponsored by the Michael J. Fox Foundation has found that a test of spinal fluid can predict who is likely to develop Parkinson's disease years before symptoms appear. The test, called the alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay, uses a patient's spinal fluid to detect synuclein pathology, one of the two biological hallmarks of Parkinson’s. While the test doesn't replace an expert diagnosis, it could shape how and when Parkinson's is diagnosed and influence drug development and clinical care.

Breakthrough Parkinson's test detects disease before symptoms appear

A new study sponsored by The Michael J. Fox Foundation has found that a test of spinal fluid can predict who is likely to develop Parkinson's disease years before symptoms first appear. The test, called the alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay, uses a patient's spinal fluid to detect synuclein pathology, one of the two biological hallmarks of Parkinson’s. While the test doesn't replace an expert diagnosis, it has the potential to shape how and when Parkinson's is diagnosed and could impact drug development and clinical care.
