Spouses Blamed as Loaded Guns Found in Carry-On Bags at Airports

A man from King George, Virginia, blamed his wife after TSA officers at Reagan National Airport discovered a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag. The man claimed that his wife had packed the bag without his knowledge. As a result, he was given a citation and faces a civil penalty of up to $15,000. TSA officials expressed disappointment at the recurring incidents of travelers bringing loaded guns to security checkpoints and advised passengers to start with an empty bag to avoid such situations. The TSA has intercepted six firearms at Reagan National Airport in the past three weeks alone. Passengers are only allowed to travel with guns in checked bags, which must be unloaded and packed in a locked hard case.

Shell to pay $10 million for air quality violations at Pennsylvania plant.

Shell will pay a civil penalty of $4.9 million and spend an additional $5 million on local environmental projects after exceeding emission limitations at its Beaver County facility. The plant is set to resume operations starting Wednesday. Western Pennsylvania will directly receive $6.2 million for projects to benefit the environment, health, and quality of life of the community near the facility because of the agreement. Shell will also pay additional monthly civil penalties for the rest of 2023 for any further exceedances.

SEC reduces LBRY fine from $22M to $111K, Ripple case takes new turn

The SEC has revised its $22 million penalty against decentralized content platform LBRY, acknowledging that the firm is unlikely to be able to pay the funds. Instead, the SEC has asked for a fine of $111,614 and to stop LBRY from conducting future unregistered offerings of crypto asset securities. The SEC first filed a civil suit against LBRY in March 2021, alleging that the firm’s LBC sales were unregistered securities offerings. The SEC won the case in November 2022, while the preceding Judge also ruled that LBC was a security.
