"Record-breaking Snowfall Closes Schools and Sets Anchorage Seasonal Record"
Anchorage, Alaska, reached a record-breaking 100 inches of snow for the season, marking only the ninth time in history and the earliest on record. The recent bitter cold snap zapped moisture from the air, but a current storm brought warmer, moisture-rich air, leading to more snow. While the heaviest snow has tapered off, additional light accumulation is expected. Bitter cold and frostbite warnings persist in western Alaska, while Southeast experiences abnormal warmth, rain, and snowmelt, potentially leading to minor flooding. Colder weather is expected to return mid-week.
