"Discovery of 1,000 Skeletons in German Mass Grave"
Archaeologists in Nuremberg, Germany have unearthed what may be Europe's largest mass grave, containing around 1,000 skeletons of plague victims dating back to the 14th century. The site, discovered during an archaeological survey for new residential buildings, is believed to hold over 1,500 bodies. The mass graves, likely a result of plague outbreaks occurring every decade, provide insight into the impact of the Thirty Years War and the demographic makeup of the city at the time. Excavation and analysis of the remains are ongoing, with plans for an exhibition in 2025.
