Drug-resistant ringworm emerges in US.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported the first known cases of antifungal-resistant ringworm in the US, which emerged in South Asia. Two women in New York City with no known links reported experiencing symptoms in 2021 and 2022. The CDC is urging healthcare providers to educate patients on how to prevent the spread of ringworm and not to share clothes with someone who has a rash. Topical creams typically used to treat ringworm did not immediately work on these two infections. The CDC stressed the importance of preventing the spread of ringworm, which is highly contagious.
