India's Supreme Court Orders Stray Dogs to Be Sheltered in Delhi
India's top court has ordered Delhi and surrounding areas to relocate all stray dogs to shelters within eight weeks to address concerns over dog bites and rabies, with a focus on establishing shelters with sterilization and vaccination facilities. Animal welfare groups criticize the timeline as unrealistic, emphasizing the need for better implementation of existing control measures. The move aims to reduce rabies-related deaths, which are estimated to cause around 18,000-20,000 deaths annually in India.
