WHO and China urged to share COVID origins information.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged China to share information about the origins of COVID-19, saying all scenarios remain on the table until that happens. The virus was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, with many suspecting it spread in a live animal market before fanning out around the world. The WHO has asked China to cooperate with it to help trace the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. A new Chinese study published this week offered some "clues" on origins but no answers, according to WHO's Maria Van Kerkhove.

Newly released data from Wuhan market sheds light on COVID origins.

Chinese scientists briefly uploaded data to a pathogen database, providing new clues on the origins of COVID-19, including the role of raccoon dogs in the virus reaching humans. The data showed that animals susceptible to the virus were present in the Huanan market in Wuhan, where the virus was first identified. The report, written by international researchers, adds to the evidence identifying the market as the spillover location of SARS-CoV-2. The WHO has called on China to release more information, and all hypotheses for COVID-19's origins remain on the table.
