Investigation uncovers 22 dogs rescued from Andover facility linked to Cottage Grove dog deaths

Authorities investigating the deaths of several dogs in Cottage Grove have rescued 22 dogs from a facility in Andover. The dogs were found dead on Grey Cloud Island, and while a person has confessed to dumping them, they are not believed to be the one who killed them. The rescued dogs are now in the care of the Animal Humane Society. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests or charges have been made at this time.

Minnesota's Humane Society 'Walk for Animals' Proceeds Without Dogs Due to Canine Influenza

The annual Walk for Animals celebration in Minnesota will go on, but for the first time, dogs (except service animals) won't be allowed due to the recent canine influenza outbreak. The decision was made to follow social-distancing guidelines issued by the Minnesota Board of Animal Health to keep animals safe and healthy. The 1-mile walk through the Minnesota State Fairgrounds is the Animal Humane Society's largest fundraiser of the year.

Canine Influenza Outbreak Confirmed in Twin Cities Shelters.

The Animal Humane Society in Minnesota has confirmed two cases of dog flu in its Golden Valley facility, and warns dog owners to watch for symptoms in their pets, particularly if they socialize with other dogs at parks and daycare centers. Symptoms include consistent hacking that sounds like a cat coughing up a furball, and treatment is similar to what humans would need: rest and fluids. Vaccines are available but currently not a part of vets’ recommended shot regimen, because the disease is rare in the state.

Canine Influenza Forces Closure of Minnesota Animal Shelters.

Animal Humane Society has temporarily closed all its locations in the metro area due to an outbreak of canine influenza. The virus is contagious and can cause respiratory infection in dogs and cats. Adoptions and programs have been paused while animals are being treated. The Veterinary Center on University Avenue will still be open for appointments, education, and training programming. The Humane Society will contact everyone who adopted an animal since March 23 to alert them to the possibility of exposure and provide guidance.
