"Challenges Faced by Indigenous Voice Proposal in Australia's Outback"

The Indigenous Voice proposal in Australia's Outback, aimed at giving Indigenous Australians a say in government decisions, is struggling to gain support. Many Indigenous people in communities like Areyonga and Hermannsburg have not heard of the proposal or lack information about its purpose. Surveys show declining nationwide support, with voters prioritizing economic issues. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese supports the proposal but has provided little detail, leading to confusion and misinformation. The campaign against the Voice has gained traction with a message of "If you don't know, vote No." Reaching out to scattered Indigenous communities has been challenging, and some Indigenous people oppose the Voice, saying it doesn't go far enough.

Aboriginal rock art shows Indonesian warships, study finds.

Aboriginal rock art in a cave in northern Australia depicting warlike watercraft has been identified as Indonesian warships from the Moluccas, according to a study published in the journal Historical Archaeology. The paintings suggest there may have been "physical violence" between the Indigenous people and visitors from afar. The researchers think that the Aboriginal people who created the rock art had either "intimate knowledge of the craft through long or close observation or from actually voyaging on them" and that they were "linked to trade, fishing, resource exploitation, head hunting or slavery."

Aboriginal rock art shows Indonesian warships, study finds.

Aboriginal rock art in Australia depicting warlike watercraft has been identified as "fighting craft" from the Moluccas, an archipelago off the eastern coast of Indonesia. The paintings suggest there may have been "physical violence" between the Indigenous people and visitors from afar. The level of detail in the paintings indicates that the Aboriginal people who created them had either "intimate knowledge of the craft through long or close observation or from actually voyaging on them." The existence of the warship rock art "implies instances of physical violence or at least a projection of power" from the Moluccan people toward the Indigenous Australians.
