Mysterious Mass Fish Stranding Baffles Japan

Thousands of tons of sardines and some mackerel have mysteriously washed up on the shores of northern Japan, forming a silver blanket along the Hakodate beach. The cause of this phenomenon is still unknown, but possible reasons include the fish being chased by larger fish, exhaustion due to lack of oxygen, or sudden exposure to cold waters during migration. There is also speculation that the discharge of treated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant could be a factor.
