"Helicopter-Dropped Poison to Exterminate Bird-Eating Mice on Warming Island"

Scientists plan to drop 550 tons of poison from helicopters on Marion Island, a sub-Antarctic territory, to eradicate house mice that have been threatening the survival of native bird species due to accelerated breeding caused by climate change. The project aims to protect the island's biodiversity by minimizing damage to native animals while eliminating the invasive mammals, with funding partly provided by the South African government. This drastic measure follows previous unsuccessful attempts, including the introduction of house cats in 1944, which led to an even greater threat to local wildlife.
