"Mummified squirrel discovered in Canadian permafrost after 30,000 years"

A lump of fur and claws discovered in Canada's Yukon territory in 2018 has been identified as a mummified Arctic ground squirrel that likely died while hibernating around 30,000 years ago. The perfectly preserved specimen, nicknamed "Hester," will soon go on display at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Center. The Klondike gold fields, where the squirrel was found, is a hotspot for mummified animal discoveries, including a baby mammoth and a wolf pup.
