Neptune's Mysterious Dark Spot: A Grand Canyon-sized Void Discovered

Astronomers using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope have discovered a large and mysterious dark spot within Neptune's atmosphere, accompanied by a bright cloud. This is the first time an Earth-based telescope has observed such a phenomenon on Neptune. The observations suggest that the dark spots are caused by gathering air particles beneath Neptune's atmospheric layer, where haze and ice mix together. The discovery of a rare deep bright cloud type alongside the dark spot has also intrigued astronomers. Future observations from Earth are expected to provide further insights into these mysterious features.
