NASA's Perseverance rover has successfully doubled its previous record for converting Mars' thin atmosphere into oxygen using the Mars Oxygen In Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE). The experiment achieved a production rate of approximately 12 grams of oxygen per hour, exceeding expectations. Despite funding running out by the end of the year, scientists are seeking new collaborators to continue the research and develop Earth-based prototypes capable of generating enough oxygen for future Mars missions.
