The Elusive Quest for a Unified Theory of the Universe

Einstein's theory of relativity assumes that any individual is justified in assuming they are the one, unmoving thing in the entire Universe. However, the visible Universe is not an absolute coordinate system, and even if it were stationary compared to the entire Universe, Einstein's conjecture on relative motion still holds. Scientists have been able to determine that the Earth is moving at a speed of just shy of 230 miles/second compared to the fireball that was the Big Bang.
