Uncovering the Mystery of mRNA Delivery in Brain Cells with Neuroscience Breakthrough.

Collaborative efforts from teams at the MPI Institutes have led to the discovery of a protein complex, named FERRY, which links mRNA to intra-cellular carriers and transports it exactly where it’s needed within neurons. The discovery may lead to a better understanding of neurological disorders caused by FERRY malfunction and possibly to new medical targets. The researchers have identified the structure and role of FERRY, which interacts directly with mRNA and holds it onto Early Endosomes (EEs), which become logistic carriers for mRNA transport and distribution in brain cells.
