"Mammals' Role in Dispersing Alcoholic Fruits Explored"

A study conducted in Costa Rica has found that wild fruits with higher alcohol content are more widely dispersed by mammals compared to fruits with lower alcohol content. The researchers collected and tested fruit from a tropical forest, finding that 78% of the fruit had detectable levels of alcohol. The study suggests that alcohol content in fruit may serve as a means of enticing animals to eat them and subsequently disperse the seeds through their feces.
