Volcanic Earth-sized planet may support life.

Astronomers have discovered an Earth-sized planet, LP 791-18d, in the habitable zone of a planetary system 87 light-years from Earth. The planet is close enough to a Neptune-like planet that it is expected to have lots of volcanic activity. LP 791-18d is estimated to have a subsurface magma layer similar to the one on Jupiter's moon Io. The planet's proximity to its star means that it is most likely tidally locked, but it is still a good candidate for harboring life due to the presence of liquid water, atmosphere, and volcanic activity. Further observations are needed to determine the atmospheric composition of the planet.
