Weather Outlook: Unseasonable Warmth and Complex Forecasts Dominate 2024

The Weather Company, an IBM Business, and Atmospheric G2 have released their temperature outlook for January-March 2024. The North and West regions of the US are expected to experience milder than usual conditions, while the Southeast may see cooler than average temperatures. El Niño will play a significant role in flipping temperature patterns, with milder winters in the North and cooler winters in the South. However, the outlook also includes the possibility of sudden stratospheric warmings (SSW) and the weakening of the polar vortex, which could bring short bursts of cold air. Overall, the first quarter of 2024 is expected to have a warm start in the Northwest, cooler conditions in the Southeast, and near-average to slightly above average temperatures in the Southwest and Plains regions.
