Experts divided on 2023 hurricane season outlook

The United Kingdom's national weather service has released a tropical weather outlook for the 2023 Atlantic basin hurricane season, predicting a very active season with around 20 named storms and 11 hurricanes. This outlook differs significantly from those calling for a season with activity that could be at or even below average. The discrepancy is due to the emerging El Niño in the eastern and central Pacific Ocean, which could either allow for several months of favorable conditions or lead to more reduced tropical activity. The Climate Prediction Center is predicting a near-average Atlantic hurricane season in 2023.
