Tesla Settles California Hazardous Waste Lawsuit for $1.5 Million

Tesla has agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle a lawsuit in California alleging that it mislabeled hazardous waste and sent it to landfills that can’t process the materials. The lawsuit, filed by 25 California counties, claimed that Tesla violated hazardous waste laws at 101 facilities across the state. While not admitting wrongdoing, Tesla agreed to the settlement and plans to improve waste handling, hire a third-party auditor, and screen waste more carefully. This settlement comes after previous environmental lawsuits against Tesla in California, including a 2021 case over air quality violations.
