California to Lead Transition to Electric Trucks with EPA Approval

California is expected to receive a waiver from the EPA to ban diesel trucks and implement a series of regulations, including a requirement for automakers to sell an increasing number of electric trucks, leading to diesel trucks fading out 100% by 2045. The regulations would also accelerate the federal government's limit on emissions from diesel vehicles and require truckmakers to ensure their new emission controls continue to work over the vehicle's lifetime. Six other states are expected to follow California's lead. The regulations could face legal challenges, but they would likely encourage businesses to go electric and increase interest in electric trucks and vans from companies like Tesla, Ford, Rivian, and Mercedes.
