Westinghouse Unveils Small Nuclear Reactor in Industry's Remake Efforts

Westinghouse has launched a smaller version of its flagship AP1000 nuclear reactor, called the AP300, which aims to be available in 2027 and generate about a third of the power of the AP1000. The move is a notable inflection point in the nuclear industry's effort to remake itself as a way to address climate change. Smaller nuclear reactors are less expensive to build, more versatile, and easier to connect to the power grid. The AP300 is estimated to cost approximately $1 billion per unit, compared to $6.8 billion for the AP1000.
