The US Treasury has released new guidance on energy efficient home tax credits, stating that homes must be "zero energy ready" to receive the full tax credit of up to $5,000 per dwelling. This means that homes must be capable of supporting solar power, electric heat pumps, electric vehicles, and other efficiency enhancements. The guidance also includes provisions to deter companies from relying on Chinese supply chains. To qualify for the maximum credit, homes must meet Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home requirements, which include specific insulation, duct work, appliances, and other features that make the home highly energy efficient. Third-party certification is required to verify compliance with these requirements.
