ZeroAvia and Alaska Airlines team up for largest hydrogen-electric zero-emission aircraft.

ZeroAvia has received a 76-passenger plane from Alaska Airlines to retrofit with zero-emissions technology, and has unveiled its "HyperCore" motor modules, a 1.8MW modular electric motor system that could potentially propel the 76-seat Dash 8-400 electric plane. The company is targeting commercialized electric plane operations beginning with 300 mile range, 9-19 seat aircraft by 2025 and is already eyeing flights with 40-80 seat aircraft with up to 700 miles of range by 2027.

California leads the way with strict diesel-engine and train emissions rules.

California has passed new rules to limit emissions from diesel-fueled locomotive engines, requiring the phase-out of inefficient locomotive engines more than 23 years old by 2030, increasing the use of zero-emissions technology to transport freight from ports and throughout rail yards, and banning diesel-spewing engines from idling for longer than 30 minutes. Diesel emissions are responsible for some 70% of Californians’ cancer risk from toxic air pollution. The rule would also drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions from locomotives by an amount akin to removing all heavy-duty trucks from the state by 2030.

California leads the way with groundbreaking emissions rules for trains and trucks.

California's Air Resources Board has approved a rule banning the use of locomotive engines more than 23 years old by 2030 and increasing the use of zero-emissions technology to transport freight from ports and throughout railyards. The rule would also ban locomotives in the state from idling longer than 30 minutes if they are equipped with an automatic shutoff. The rule would curb emissions on a class of engines that annually release more than 640 tons of tiny pollutants that can enter deep into a person's lungs and worsen asthma, and release nearly 30,000 tons of smog-forming emissions known as nitrogen oxides.
