"Opting for Salmon-Inspired Diets Over Actual Salmon Consumption"
A new study suggests that consuming small wild fish like mackerel, anchovies, and herring, which are typically eaten by salmon, may be more beneficial for human health than consuming salmon itself. The study found that farmed salmon fillets lack essential nutrients compared to wild salmon and their feed, such as calcium, iodine, iron, omega-3, vitamin B12, and vitamin A. Shifting towards consuming these smaller fish not only provides more nutrients directly but also has a positive environmental impact by allowing larger fish populations to thrive and putting less strain on aquatic food systems.
