"Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant: Recent Contaminated Water Leaks"

Untreated water leaked from a filtering device at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, containing 220 times the standard level of radioactive substances. The leak, caused by a valve left open during an inspection, resulted in an estimated 5.5 tons of water containing about 22 billion becquerels of cesium-137 and other radioactive substances entering the ground. Tokyo Electric Power Company plans to recover the leaked water and surrounding soil, and has not confirmed any environmental impact outside the plant.

"Massive Rolling Hills Estates landslide triggers widespread evacuations as homes crumble into canyon"

A major landslide in Rolling Hills Estates, California, has destroyed 12 homes and continues to threaten more as the hillside slides into the canyon below. Residents reported hearing cracks under their homes days before the incident. Sixteen people have been evacuated, and utilities have been shut off as officials investigate the cause, speculating that water evaporating in the ground or an ongoing water leak may be to blame. The neighborhood, built in 1978, had been solid until this weekend.

Minnesota nuclear plant shuts down for radioactive water leak repair.

Xcel Energy will shut down its nuclear power plant in Minnesota to repair a new leak of water containing a radioactive compound. The leak is confined to the facility, but a small amount of the leaking water has begun reaching groundwater at the site. The shutdown is not expected to impact electrical service in the area. The earlier leak of about 400,000 gallons of water containing tritium was fully contained on-site. The plant's proximity to the Mississippi River is being monitored due to the groundwater flow towards it.
